Worked in a number 20 thread the lobster measures 3 1/2" across the width of the claws by 4" from top to bottom!

Please note - alternative feelers.

The Vlp's on the chains after Rings 46 and 47 can be missed out.  When the lobster is complete the feelers can then be made by making chains starting above each bead.  The chain should be worked with alternate 'normal' doubles and non wrapped doubles (as in the second side of a SR).  Work for length required.

Also note that block tatting can be worked like this.

Starting at base of lobster using Wsh1 - 2 beads on Wsh1

R1:       3 vsp 3 – 3 – 3

Ch:       vsp 6

R2:       3 + (last p R1) 3 vsp 3 – 3

Ch:       vsp 6

R3:       3 + (last p R2) 3 – 3 vsp 3

Ch:       vsp 6 Lj(vsp R3) 16

SR4:     3 + (2nd p R3) 3 / 8

Ch:       4 + (vsp R2) 4

SR5:     3 + (2nd p R1) 3 / 8

Ch:       16 + (vsp R1) 6 + (base R1)  Change to Wsh2

SR6:     4 / 4  Change to Wsh1

Ch:       vsp 4

R7:       4 + (vsp base R2) 4

Ch:       vsp 4

R8:       4 + (vsp base R3) 4  Change to Wsh2

Continue with block tatting as follows reversing work and changing Wsh at the end of each row

Ch:       1 vsp 4 + (vsp base next R previous row) vsp 4 + (vsp base next R previous row)  Change to Wsh1

*Ch:     1 vsp 4 + (vsp on previous row) vsp 4 + (vsp on previous row)  Change Wsh

Repeat from * twice (4 rows altogether)

*Ch:     1 vsp 5 + (vsp on previous row) vsp 5 + (vsp on previous row)  Change Wsh

Repeat this row three times (8 rows)

*Ch:     1 vsp 6 + (vsp on previous row) vsp 6 + (vsp on previous row)  Change Wsh

Repeat this row once (10 rows)

*Ch:     1 vsp 7 + (vsp on previous row) vsp 7 + (vsp on previous row)  Change Wsh

Repeat this row once (12 rows)

Ch:       1 vsp 8 + (vsp on previous row) vsp 8 + (vsp on previous row)  Change Wsh

Ch:       1 vsp 4 vsp 4 + (vsp on previous row) vsp 4 vsp 4 + (vsp on previous row)  Continue with same shuttle (Wsh2)

First Claw

Ch:       3

Ch:       4

R30:     3 + (R29) 2 – 2 – 3

SR42:   2 + (SR31) 2 / 6

Ch:       4 + (vsp R30) 4 + (vsp R29) 4

R43:     2 + (space btwn SR27 & SR28) 2

Head

Ch:       2 + (vsp SR27) vsp 4 + (vsp SR26) vsp 4 + (vsp SR25)

SR44:   6 / 3 – 3  Change to Wsh2

Ch:       4

R45:     3 + (SR44) 3 + (vsp SR26) 3 – 3

Ch:       vsp 4

R46:     3 + (R45) 3 + (SR27) 6  Change Wsh1

Ch:       6 B Vlp (18” – the bead lies on the core thread directly below the Vlp - also see notes at the beginning) 2

R47:     6 + (vsp base R45) 6

Ch:       2 B Vlp (18” – the bead lies on the core thread directly below the Vlp) 6 + (vsp base R44) T & C

Take one of the Vlp’s and cut it so that the end nearest to the claw is approximately 9” long.  Hold this shorter part in the fingers (or tie to a shuttle) and make a chain of 40ds.  Tie knots and cut

Second Claw

Holding the lobster upside down join both shuttle threads to SR24 and work as first claw until R43

Next R:            2 + (space btwn SR24 & SR25) 2

Ch:       2 + (vspSR25) T & C
