The following interest in sequins in patterns started off life some years ago when I used them for a bag I made.  I have used them in a mobile, a basket and a box.  The outer edging of the sequin is now an 'improved' version of many experiments and can be used for any 7/8" (22mm) sequin.  If you have sequins with a hole at the side then this is useful to join into when making following rounds.  The first part of the pattern (enclosing the sequin) is used for all the versions and a number 20 thread is needed.  For the outer rounds any size thread from 20 - 40 (or equivalent by combining two threads) can be used.

Skills required.  Knowledge of split rings and a desire to play with beads.

Abbreviations

R

+ B

vsp

very small picot (smallest you can make)

SH1

Shuttle 1 (shuttle in right hand)

SH2

Shuttle 2 (shuttle in right hand)

LBP

MB

Centre of sequin motif - round 1

Please always use a number 20 thread for this round to ensure a good 'fit'.

First side

R1:    3 vsp 2 vsp 2 Cl

SR2:  fvsp 2 vsp 2 / 3 Cl  Repeat SR2 9 times

SR12:          fvsp 2 /3 + (vsp R1) 2 Cl

Second side

SR13:          Fvsp 2 / Fvsp 2 vsp 3 Cl

SR14:          fvsp 2 + (vsp SR11) 2 / 3 Cl

SR15:          fvsp 2 + (vsp SR10) 2 / 3 Cl continue until SR23 has been worked

R24:  fvsp 2 + (vsp R1) 2 + (vsp SR13) 3 insert sequin then Cl T & C

In all the following patterns the rings are joined onto the outer fvsp's on the sequin covered round.  See fig. 2

Version 1

The pattern written below is for the basic version and different effects can be achieved by using the shoe lace trick to alter the position of the threads.  Alternating coloured points can be made this way.  Work over the sequin edges as in round 1.
Round 2

42 beads on Sh1 & 6 on Sh2

Please note – this doesn’t include the beads which are added to the long picots at the points of the star.  To add these beads this method is used.

Using Sh1 as the working shuttle throughout - place 2 beads @ back of hand

R1:    4 B 4 + (rnd 1) 4 B 4 Cl DNRW

SR2:  2 – 2 / 4 Cl * bead @ back of hand before starting next SR
