Version 2 - same each side |

Pictures 1 & 2 show the front and back of version 1 (I couldn’t decide which was front and which was back!!) - thus I call it a reversible motif. Version 2 (third picture) is the same when viewed from BOTH sides. Puzzled? Read on ..................... |

Materials required. 2 colours of No. 20 thread (finished motif measures 2” in diameter), beads and two shuttles. Skills needed. Knowledge of the Self Closing Mock Ring. N.B. There is a challenging part at the end of the second version!! |

Version 1 |
|
Wind Wsh1 with the green thread and Wsh2 with the blue thread. Add 16 beads to Wsh1 & 8 beads to Wsh2 join shuttle threads and start working with Wsh1 in the right hand. When adding the 8 beads to the second picot on the ring of the SCMR leave space for joining between each bead. Hint – leave almost as much thread after the beads as the beads take up in the thread see fig. 1. |

SCMR1: 6 – 6 (R 3 – 2 BBBBBBBB 2 – 3 Cl) 6 – 6 Cl Rw change to Wsh2 See fig. 1 for beads on SCMR Ch: 6 B 6 SLT change to Wsh1. See fig. 2 for whole of SCMR & following chain. |

R2: 6 – 6 + (3rd p of ring ON SCMR) 6 – 6 Rw SLT change to Wsh2 Ch: 6 B 6 Rw Wsh1 See fig. 3 |

*SCMR3: 6 +B(p on last SCMR – joining BEHIND last R) 6 (R 3 + [3rd p on ring ON SCMR] 2 + [btwn next 2 beads on 2nd p on ring on SCMR1] 2 – 3 Cl ) 6 – 6 Cl Rw Wsh2 See fig. 4 Ch: 6 B 6 Rw SLT change to Wsh1 R4: 6 + B(in front of SCMR to last R) 6 +(3rd p on ring ON SCMR) 6 – 6 SLT change to Wsh2 Ch 6 B 6 change to Wsh1. See fig. 4 Repeat from * until 8 SCMR’s and R’s have been worked joining last SCMR to first SCMR and last R to first R (with B’s). T & C |

Version 2 |
|
This version is the exactly the same pattern BUT each ring is joined to the previous ring having taken the picot down through the last SCMR. Each SCMR is joined to the previous SCMR again taking the picot down through the last R. Add beads to these picots before joining. See fig. 5
Work 8 SCMR’s and 7 R’s joining last SCMR to SCMR1. Now, this is the challenging part - please read carefully and hold in there! Cut thread from Wsh1 leaving sufficient to make final ring and chain. Take the thread behind the last joined p’s of the final and first SCMR's and up. See fig. 7 Make first 6ds next to the last chain at the back of the work (this is fiddly!). Join to previous R from the back as before (don’t forget the bead!). Now pull the ring & shuttle up through the space (see fig. 7) & continue the R with 6ds +(SCMR – as before) 6ds join to 1st p of R1 pulling p UP through 1st SCMR (don’t forget the B) 6ds. Finish off with chain. T & C |
