Self Closing Mock Ring – SCMR With kind permission from Gary and Randy Houtz - THE Shuttle Brothers |
The Self Closing Mock Ring is basically a chain thread on which rings are made. Before starting the chain a loop is formed through which the shuttle is passed when the chain is finished - thus forming a 'mock ring'.
With shuttle 2 as the chain thread and shuttle 1 as core thread (working thread) hold work in the usual position to start a chain. (fig. 1)
Pull middle finger down catching the core thread back to the pinch forming a loop (fig. 2)
You are now ready to begin tatting the first element of the SCMR using shuttle 1. |
| Figure 3 shows the start of the SCMR and a ring made on it with shuttle 2. |

Figure 4 shows the completed SCMR being made into a ring by passing shuttle 1 through the loop made at the pinch. |

This picture hopefully shows how the SCMR is simply a chain (with a loop at the beginning) with rings thrown off it at intervals. If you need further help, please email me. |
