8. IFRA Website Monograph: "Marigold Oil & Absolute (Tagete oil and Absolute)"

I have always believed that clear communication and the unambiguous imparting of knowledge and research findings are an essential requirement of a professional organisation. It is peculiar to me therefore that the IFRA Standards (formerly referred to as Guidelines) for Tagete oil and absolute on the IFRA website http://www.ifraorg.org/GuideLines.asp are found listed under Marigold oil and absolute. Many of us using Marigold products in Perfumery and Aromatherapy normally think of Marigold qualities as deriving from Calendula officinalis, a completely different species and product.

It is true that the text in the Standards defines Marigold oil and absolute as Tagetes minuta L., syn. Tagetes glandulifera Schrank and Tagetes patula L. But no explanatory note mentioning that the word Marigold equally applies to Calendula officinalis L. is given, and the situation is not crystal clear, as indicated by my post-bag!
