Hogmanay celebrations (2004/5)

1st January 2005: HAPPY NEW YEAR

First off: HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Wishing you all the best for 2005. Live life, love life!

So what do you do on New Year's day, after a night of celebrating. Sleep, nurse hangover, visit family friends, work out which text messages you actually replied to last night and did you really mean to send that one?

We decided to not vegetate in front of the telly but go to the cinema to watch House of Flying Daggers. I have the following recommendations:

(1) If you want to have a cinema almost to yourself, go on New Years Day to an early show of a Chinese film.

(2) Take the car because as you walk there you will get caught in a squally blizzardy rainstorm that soaks you to the skin in 30 seconds.

(3) Running the rest of the way to the cinema after being out partying all night is a challenge

(4) Washroom hand driers aren't that good at drying jeans.

(5) Watching a film whilst wet is less than perfect

(6) If you really like good story telling, and beautiful images, then the movie is great: go see it! Its subtitled and there isn't much dialogue so it is easy to follow what's going on.

We then went over to a flat party at Scott & Rosie's. And Rosie's hospitality was over-generous, and just what the hangover doctor ordered. Although she planned to do standard nibbles, Rosie ended up doing cooked meals for c18 people (including some fussy veggie eaters). And as people had turned up with champagne and chocolates etc, these just had to be converted into calories.

So, that's pretty much the end of Edinburgh's Hogmanay for 2004/5. Pretty good time all in all. Now all we need to do is move Edinburgh to a warmer place......

It's now time to plan ahead, and make 2005 full of opportunity, adventure, fun, enlightenment and love. How many of your New Year's resolutions have you broken already? I have plans in place so little need for additional ones, but here's one:

Go to the cinema at least once. YES! success already.

I'll have a think for some more tomorrow (honest!).

Live life, Love life
