Januray Seminars

Introductory Seminar

January 17th 1999

The Seminar was held at Bourne Leisure Centre and was attended by 25 Martial Artists from all over the UK. People travelled from as far afield as Burnley, Birmingham, Derby, Doncaster, Driffield and London to attend this the first Pressure Point Seminar of 1999.

There were many high graded Instructors in attendance with some good working knowledge of Pressure Points and their applications.

However, the principles used to apply these points, as taught by the DSI, were unknown to most attendees. It is these principles that were the main theme of the Seminar.

Firstly the law of complimentary opposites was explained (Yin and Yang) and how it applies to the Martial Arts. Just this alone proved enough to have Uke's dropping to the floor with the minimum effort.

This then expanded to cover the Quadrant Theory and the Quadrant Theory in movement. Once these principles were taken on board we moved on to Five Element Theory and Pressure Points themselves.

Initially all the principles shown were applied to one simple technique, we then applied these same principles to more and more techniques. In this way each attendee was able to apply the same principle to the way they do each individual technique. This was further proof that the correct application of Pressure Points can be used whatever the style.

Finally, attendees were asked to show any technique or Kata move within their own system in order for us to apply the principles to improve the effectiveness of the technique. This was done most effectively for each technique shown.

Comments after the Seminar

John Hart "Loved the Seminar. The guys were raving about it"

James Grantley (Ref the application of another Player to a technique) "That makes a horrible difference"

Christian Pinder "Thank you. I've only just recently (within the last four months)
started to study kyusho but it has already added a lot to my Karate
training. I've been to three other kyusho seminars, but yours was by
far the best. Definately the most informative."

Keith Slack "The seminar was great, I really enjoyed it."

Keith Morgan "Thanks for today, really enjoyed myself.Good to see other aspects and
inputs"
