DESCRIPTION OF MIVEC SYSTEM |
The 1997 Mitsubishi Lancer MR has the same body design to the excellent EVO 4 model. Under the bonnet lies the 1600cc 4G92 MIVEC controlled engine which unleashes 175bhp at 7500rpm !! The MIVEC System is similar in design to Honda's VTEC system in that a second set of cam followers are activated at 5000rpm. These followers enable the larger, secondary cam lobes to operate the valves and the engine literally races up to the red line at 8200rpm ! With 2 cam profiles to choose from the engine can produce a very linear torque curve which makes town driving a pleasure and open road driving adrenalin pumping to say the least. The system was first used in motorbikes under the name "power Valve". It was then further developed for formula 1 cars when all turbos were banned back in the 80's. The system effectively gives the driver 2 engines in one. |
