Starting Off
You may choose an entry to view by either:
- Scrolling throught the list of names in the left frame and clicking on the desired name
- Entering the name in the search-box to the above left and then clicking on the button next to it. This will position the closest name in the file at the top of the frame. The entered name need not be complete, but should follow the same format as the names in the frame below the search box (i.e. "Lastname, Firstname . . ."). Note that the search is case-sensitive.
When you select a name in the frame at the left, you'll notice that the estimated life-span dates for that individual will appear in the box below the frame.
The individual life-span dates are frequently preceded by codes that describe its source and accuracy:
- ~ denotes an approximation as given in the original GEDCOM
- { denotes that the date is not later than the year shown
- } denotes that the date is not earlier than the year shown
- ? denotes that the date is unknown
- * denotes a calculated rough approximation
