THE TRUDGE COMES OF AGE

The next Suffolk Trudge is on OCTOBER 11th, put a little later this year to avoid Tim Gunn's auction and John Malseed's border ride.  It's on a Suinday as usual and is a jaunt of up to 30 miles.  There are many short cuts to make it shorter and easier on the older rider and older machine.  We congregate at 10:00am at Marlinspike (address below) for a feverish cycle jumble (bring what you like to sell, no charge), tea and buns for an 11:00 push-off.  The plan is to eat a late lunch at the Low House, Laxfield at about 1:30.  Food there has to be booked (01986 798 395) and we usually eat outside.  Picnics are allowed if you ask Bob the landlord nicely, and drink his ales of course.  All times are ish.  Maps will be left for late-comers.  On this ride we insist on old machines, please.  As this is the 21st event we request people ride machines older than 21 years!  The older the better; the terrain is easy ... ish

SPOKE AND STEAM

Pray take this as a final warning about our giant event this coming Sunday 30th August in the year of our Lord.  The Spoke and Steam event takes place at the Mid Suffolk Railway Museum (the STEAM bit).  There are a choice of start points (the SPOKE bit) viz: Great Ashfield: Pete Stanners on 01359 241 904 or Walpole (number at foot of page) or Diss: Mick Madgett on 01379 650 419 or Stowmarket: Andrew Pattle on 01449 673 943.  These are several different starts to the museum that holds a full steam-up day, plus a real-ale festival. Picnics welcome, food and drink available at the museum, we get there precisely for 'around lunchtime' sharp.  Call the Fat Comptroller Ian Maddams on 01799 525 084 if you need further info.  Ian is, as they say, the centre of The Spoke.

EXTRA SPECIAL AUGUST RIDE

Though some brave souls may make the usual Diss monthly congregate and ride at the Scole Inn on Monday 31st August (bank holiday monday after the Spoke And Steam event) we aim to have an Extra-Curricular ride on WEDNESDAY September 2nd (so not in August at all then) to meet at the Scole Inn at 7:00 to then ride out to the De La Pole Arms for some supper, a distance of some 7 miles each way unless Mick adds some hills en-route.  Make the most of this: the nights are drawing in.

RIDE ON (and xmas)

Whip out those diaries and make ye a note that Tim Gunn holds another splendid AUCTION of Cycles and bits to do with the subject at Cut Elms Farm in Essex on September 26th, after which the machines purchased can be dragged around the Trudge...

Several heroes plan to ride l'Eroica in Tuscany again on October 3rd and 4th; Mick Madget is masterminding this (number above).

Mick also has his usual XMAS ride.  This year we have decided to move it to SUNDAY DECEMBER 27th and not do a Scole club ride the next day.  Meet at Mick's shop in Diss at 10:30am or, if you are really stupid, Marlinspike Hall at 8:00am for a much longer ride!

Attention!  Cycle Jumble on Sat October 10th at St Andrews Hall, Whittlesey from 1:00 to 4:00, 10/- to get in.  Contact Sandra Green on 01733 206 627, just smell those rusty bits and pieces...

Further details for all events, call Cally on 01 98 67 84 664, or Mick Madgett on 01379 642 735.  Send some postage stamps should you want to take up further issues: Marlinspike Hall, Walpole, Halesworth, Suffolk, IP19 9AR.
