News just in of a new ride in our parts open to any pre-1914 machine.  It starts from the Weaver's Tea Room on the main street in Peasenhall (near Walpole, Suffolk) at 11:00am on Sunday August 19th running a gentle 13 miles to the Leiston Long Shop Museum for lunch (no need to book) and returning for a tea at the start.  Suitable for solid-tyres, Ordinaries and early pneumatics; further details of accomomomondation and suchlike can be got from e-mailing or telephoning him on 01 986 784 66 (calls may be monitored for training and comedy purposes).  If successful this ride, I'm told, may become a yearly fixture, so a good turn out is envisaged.

You can, of course, 'make a week of it' by staying in a local hostel thereafter, and then joining in the Spoke And Steam ride the following weekend.  There are many starting points to this, to suit all machines and capabilities, the longest route being a 25 miler from Walpole.  The 'hub' of it all is the wonderous steam museum at Wetheringsett, near Stowmarket, for lunch on August 26th.  Ian Maddams is full of information on this one: 01 799 525 084

For those who competed in the Limpics and are feeling extra strong, we then meet up at the wonderous Victoria pub on August 27th at 8:00pm for cakes and ale, our usual monthly outing we call a 'Scole' as it is in Scole where we usually gather, but not this time, no, not a bit of it.  All welcome.  Then, the following monthly (Sept 24th) we resort to the 7:30 Scole Inn venue with a short ride out to act as preparation for the L'Eroica bash in Tuscany a few days after (October 6th) not to be missed.

Trudge number 27 gathers at Marlinspike Hall, Walpole, on Sunday 0ctober 14th at 10:00 for tea and buns and a ride north to end up at Ihe Cratfield Poacher, a fine hostel; for a late lunch you must book direct with the pub itself on 01 98 67 98 206 but no need to book to come 0n the ride, just turn up with the older the machine the better say we.  Bring along as much rusty jumble as you wish to sell (commission free) some of it cycle-related, some of it not.

Many of you are eager lor xmas to be upon us once more if only t0 join in on Mick Madgett's Boxing Day Bash, December 26th should be etched into the ice, where we meet at his Diss shop for an 11:00 departure to a lowly pub for food and drink and a warm fire.

Further details for all events, call Cally on 01 98 67 84 664, or Mick Madgett on 01379 642 735.  Send some postage stamps should you want to take up further issues: Marlinspike Hall, Walpole, Halesworth, Suffolk, IP19 9AR.
