Silverstone 28th July
Qualifying
I was hoping to go well this weekend as I had changed the set up to try and cure some of the understeer. New struts and springs and also some new tyres. The weather was very hot and we were first on the track The lesson learnt today was not to alter too many things and if you do go testing. The car was the worst it had been all season and I couldn’t get the throttle on until out of the corner. Ended up 30th and wasn’t very pleased.
My other car driven by James Fennelow qualified 24th in only his third time out. He is also my mechanic and obviously altered my set up so he could out qualify me.
Race Final
Changed the springs before the race to try and help. Starting 30th out of 34 on the grid I needed to make some places to try and keep 10th in the championship. I couldn’t see or hear the count down boards and I wasn’t quite ready for the lights. Anyway not too bad a start and made a few places on the first corner by hugging the pit wall all the way into it. I had a good race with Dave Balding for a few laps swapping places but the understeer was getting worse as the race went on. He ended up in front and then I had Steve Groom chasing me. He had the power out of the corner because I couldn’t get my foot down and we also had a good race. I couldn’t help but keep running over the kerb at Becketts eventually taking my exhaust off a mounting. If there was another lap I would have been black flagged. Coming out of the last corner I tried holding up Steve but he had the run on me over the line finishing 400th of a second in front leaving me 18th. Which for some reason he is very pleased with as I seem to get messages commenting on the fact. I think he bribed the officials as I was sure I was in front :o)
James Fennelow finished 15th but was disqualified for being underweight. Ha Ha. Other local races who all out qualiified me were Gareth Wright (Ended up in the gravel on his second lap). Terry Roughton followed him in but managed to get back on track and finished 25th. Paul Mcmillan decided that the gravel at Luffield was better. Managed to get going again but was 4 laps down
