Under 14's - Match Report. Saturday 14th October 2000-10.30 am K.O.

The Under 14 representative team played the first match of this years Gloucestershire Youth Football Association county wide Inter League competition at the Imperial Ground against their old rivals the Bristol Junior League. The game started quite evenly with both teams probing for an opening. After a closely contested 15 minutes Danny Wilcox and Paul Arthur narrowly missed chances to open the scoring for the AYL. Within five minutes Sean Lamb broke away on the left flank and crossed for Rob Smart to control and then struck the ball superbly to ensure that the AYL went into half time leading by the odd goal.

After five minutes of the second period the BJL equalised from their first attack with a speculative shot from the right wing by Tom Evans that surprised the AYL keeper, Ashley Clark, at his near post. AYL responded very quickly spurred on by this and regained the lead after Paul Arthur made up for his earlier miss by converting a cross, Rob Smart was the provider on this occasion. Rob Smart and Paul Arthur added a goal apiece to extend the lead to 4-1. Ryan Braddock reduced the deficit before Sean Lamb struck a fifth and Rob Smart completed his hat trick giving the Avon Youth League a deserved 6-2 victory in a match played in an excellent spirit throughout.

The squad are now looking forward to the rest of the campaign which will involve a return fixture against the BJL and matches versus the Stroud and Cirencester Leagues later in the season.

The full Under 14 squad were:

Ashley Clark, Ben Buffery {capt.}, Rob Smart, Paul Arthur, Danny Wilcox [Whitchurch Sports]

Ryan George, Gary Saunders, Adam O'Brien [Warmley Rangers]
