Occupation, travel ......
James Wishart Mackenzie married Ellen Purvis in 1853. He seems to have continued as a Merchant Seaman for some time after the wedding and the family moved to live at Percy Main for a time.Their son Thomas was born in Chirton, Percy Main near North Shields 17th November 1859. James's occupation is seaman. I have done a lot of searching but I still haven't found the family on the 1861 Census. At around this time they moved to the Bedlington area so I'm looking at records for there and Percy Main.

On the 1871 Census James's occupation is Colliery Railwayman and in 1881 Coalminer. They moved from the Bedlington area c.1886 and on the 1891 Census are living at 27 Brandling Village. They must have moved not long after to No. 31, where James Wishart Mackenzie died in 1894. In 1891 James and Ellen have their daughter Jane age 25 living with them, a grandson Peter age 1 year and "a visitor" Albert Hutchins. By this time of course, Granda and his parents had moved to Backworth and others of James and Ellen's family would be married/moved away.
