On the 1871 Census James's occupation is Colliery Railwayman and in 1881 Coalminer. They moved from the Bedlington area c.1886 and on the 1891 Census are living at 27 Brandling Village. They must have moved not long after to No. 31, where James Wishart Mackenzie died in 1894. In 1891 James and Ellen have their daughter Jane age 25 living with them, a grandson Peter age 1 year and "a visitor" Albert Hutchins. By this time of course, Granda and his parents had moved to Backworth and others of James and Ellen's family would be married/moved away.
