• water for his feet
• a kiss
• oil on his head

Some of these are not what we would do today in Britain. Today we might:

• Shake hands
• Hug or kiss depending on how well you know them
• invite them in
• take their coat
• offer refreshment - tea/coffee etc and "nibbles" if invited for a meal.
