Fossil-hunting: try the beach from Ravenscar to Robin Hood`s Bay.
Beaches: rocks and pebbles, so not brilliant for swimming, but excellent rock pools - plenty to keep the family interested. Nearest are at Hayburn Wyke and Stoupe Brow. Car Parks near, but be prepared to walk for a few minutes.

Goathland: Heartbeat country ! Walks, teas etc in superb surroundings.
The North York Moors Railway: traditional steam railway - start from Pickering, Grosmont or Goathland.
Robin Hood`s Bay: delightful (car-free) fishing village with plenty to see and do.
Danby Lodge: North York Moors National Park Visitors` Centre.
The North Yorkshire Moors: 40 miles of uninterrupted wild country to enjoy, starting within walking distance of Ravenscar and Staintondale.

Country Houses: Castle Howard (west of York), Sledmere House and Burton Agnes (Driffield), to name but three.......
Bempton Cliffs: RSPB reserve. Spectacular gannets, puffins, etc.
Coastal Villages north of Whitby: Sandsend, Staithes, Runswick Bay - unspoilt traditional fishing villages.
