Tender Trap history

The band...

...started in 2001 with Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey and a small 8 track machine.  The idea was to record two-minute songs without middle 8s or excessive choruses.  The plan was also never to play live.

The Magnetic Fields invited Tender Trap to support them in Dublin.  The plan never to play live was revised.

John Stanley (aka DJ Downfall) joined the band to help create rhythm tracks and play the bass. The rhythm tracks were played live by our trusty fourth member, John's CD player

With this line up we went on to record our first album ('Film Molecules') and first three singles. We also ended up playing loads of gigs, in the UK, France, Spain, Sweden, US and Ireland.

For our second album, though, we wanted to return to the sound of some proper drums, and we persuaded our friend Claudia Gonson (Magnetic Fields) to do some drumming. This album ('6 Billion People') is just out (May/June 2006). It was preceded by a CDEP ('Language Lessons EP') in November 2005.

Before that...

Rob, Amelia and John all played in Marine Research, alongside Peter Momtchiloff (now in the Would-be-goods, Speed of Sound and Scarlet's Well) and Cathy Rogers.

Before that, Rob and Amelia played in Heavenly, alongside Peter, Cathy and Amelia's brother Mathew Fletcher. See Pitchfork webzine for a recent article about Heavenly's apparent place in indie history! Meanwhile John played in Dweeb.

And even before that, Amelia (and for a very short period also Rob) were in Talulah Gosh, alongside Peter, Mathew, Chris Scott and Liz Price/Eithne Farry. Rob was also in a Bristol band called Five Year Plan.

Other stuff...

John has released his own debut LP ("The Curse") as DJ Downfall on Where It's At

Until recently, Rob and Amelia also played in Sportique, with Gregory Webster and Mark Flunder. Sportique have released singles and three LPs on Where It's At and Matinee. Amelia and Rob have now been replaced by the wonderful Woodie Taylor (also drummer in Comet Gain).
