Last Friday
Chalfont St Giles played the final of the Timberlake Cup, a
15-overs midweek knockout competition among the local clubs.
We made the final after a convincing semi-final win against
Holmer Green the previous Friday. Our opponents in the final
at Winchmore Hill were Penn and Tylers Green, and after a
steady start they piled on the runs towards the end to
finish with 143-6 off their 15 overs. Chalfont St Giles
never really came to terms with the required run rate, and
the loss of early wickets made the task for the middle order
a little too stiff. We finished with 108-7, but made our
mark for the season by claiming the runners-up spot in a
keenly contested event. I now have a trophy to bring home to
prove that I have played cricket in England. Rain
interrupted play on Saturday against Little Kingshill and
washed out our Sunday mach all together. I had the
consolation of taking 3-40 on the Saturday, including a
wicket with my third delivery, and I now sit at the top of
the club bowling averages where I will remain until the next
time I bowl.
