My Thrush

If I were to be asked which is my favourite bird, I would have to say"the Thrush". Sadly declining in numbers due to the voracious methods of farming in my vicinity. Each Spring, for a few short days, my garden resounds to the song of the Thrush. Usually in the early evening, high in a nearby tree, when the rest of the garden is still, the pure musical notes float from his throat in a stream of  golden melody. A joy indeed, captivating all who care to listen.

To illustrate birds properly, I feel it is necessary to understand their physiology.  To this end I spent hours and hours learning how birds were constructed, poring over huge tomes describing the structure of skulls ,bones, feathers, claws, beaks and so on.  Only then did I venture to try to illustrate them.  One of the important lessons in life is that success rarely happens by chance.  You have to work at it.
