Newport - Isle of Wight

Colour photography is very nice, but sometimes one feels the need to retain memories in a different way. Thus it was with the above little watercolour.  The camera may well be an automatic paintbox, very fast and very accurate, whereas the human eye merely feeds upon the scene.  However, the time spent producing a watercolour or a sketch of something is rarely wasted as little details become more assertive the longer you look.   Years ago, before the camera was invented, travellers took  delight in reproducing what they were seeing, either with pen, pencil or paint, so that they could take it home and enjoy it over and over again.  However, the age of "point and shoot" cameras now being with us, the image is rarely studied, merely shot and forgotten, and then the viewer turns away seeking fresh prey for his magic box. Sad indeed. A reflection of today's immense lack of tolerance......
