These are pages dedicated to the greatest singer, songwriter & live performer of the 20th century and beyond.
So having thrown away the opportunity to see Bruce live I stumbled on in my sheltered life for a few days then there was a report on local TV about the concert and when I saw the snippets I thought "Hmm that looked like it was fun, but never mind". One thing in the
TV reports that caught my attention was the phrase " The greatest live performer in the world today".
So.........a year later I'm in the local library browsing in the cd section and I saw disc 1 of a three cd set called " Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Live 1975-85"
and that phrase about live performances sprang to mind so I borrowed the cd out of curiosity.
I got home put on the Hi-Fi and stuck the disc on and the announcer said
" Ladies and Gentlemen, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band" and a piano started playing and Bruce started singing "Thunder Road" and I just sat and thought (and I know this sounds kinda corny) WOW. This was pretty powerful stuff. I sat and listened to that cd three times straight off (My wife thought I was nuts and still does by the way). Then I rushed back to the library and got all the Bruce stuff they had went home and realized just what I had been missing!!!!
In 1988 I got to see Bruce and the E-Streeters perform live in Sheffield on the Tunnel of Love tour.
"Ladies and Gentlemen........................ Bruce Springsteen"
My discovery of Bruce Springsteen
It was back in '85 when all the hype that was following the release of "Born In the USA." was around. I live in Yorkshire England about 15 miles from a city called Leeds.
Bruce was playing a massive concert as part of the tour at Roundhay park and a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to go to the concert. I hadn't much of Bruce's music but what I did know was of course BITUSA so like a fool I said (and looking back I nearly choke on these words now) "No the guy can only scream his head off!! I can think of better things to spend my money on"
My only regret is that I didn't discover Bruce In the 70's and be there at the beginning
