Xewkija (Gozo)

At the time of building of the Gourgion Tower (demolished by the Americans in WW2), the population of Xewkija numbered about 400.
Xewkija was the first parish to be established in 1678 by Bishop Michele Gerolamo de Molina. It was situated quite close to the Castello which could afford shelter and protection in case of danger.Most of the people were poor. (For more information see -"The Guorgion Tower" for full details.
