Both teams started brightly with Leicester putting the first shot in on goal in the first minute of the game.

The Big Yin, sell him? who ever said that? The match then started to settle down and as the teams sussed each other out it was Newcastle who began to get the upper hand and brought more pressure to bear. That was capped in 20 minutes when Ferguson put them 1-0 with a great side footed goal from a Shearer pull back.

Quite a bit of midfield work then followed with Newcastle again getting the better of the exchanges.

Muzzy Izzett was taken off injured after just half an hour and from there Newcastle again dominated for the next five or six minutes during which they could have had another two goals

As half time approached, Leicester got back into the fray a little and started to put on some pressure and had two or three good attempts in the last couple of minutes of the half.

The second half started in much the same way the first half did, with Leicester putting the first pressure and they won an immediate free kick for a foul by Rob Lee on Savage....a viciously hit shot cannoned around the penalty area and the Leicester players all claimed a penalty, in vein, when the ball appeared to hit Pistone on the hand.

Two minutes later another good drive by Eadie was blocked by Solano.

Shearer gets the better of Elliot.Newcastle then started to get a grip on the game and in the 53rd minute a superbly threaded through ball from Solano down the middle was met by Shearer on the run and he rounded Tim Flowers and pout the ball into the back of the net.

From the restart, Leicester countered immediately and won a free kick in an very dangerous position and a well driven shot was brilliantly gathered by Steve Harper.

Newcastle then seemed to ease off the throttle a bit and allowed Leicester back into the match. They started to exert a bit more pressure but for long periods, although the had the ball, they didn't really threaten the Newcastle goal. A superb ball from Lee was gathered by Solano who shot across the goal only to see Flowers get a finger tip to it and put the ball around the post. Newcastle further good chances fell to Ferguson who hit the post and Rob Lee who had a superb shot from 28 yards tipped onto the bar by Flowers.

On 83 minutes Leicester won a free kick about 25 yards out, and Zagorakis found the back of the net, although there was a great possibility that there was a deflection along the way which deceived Harper.

Leicester then threw everything they had at Newcastle's goal, but never really looked as though they were going to get an equaliser and Newcastle ran out fairly comfortable winners.

Newcastle's Man of the Match, ROB LEE. Although I though he was under par a bit in the first half, after he threw off an apparent injury in the second he was superb for the rest of the second half and gave his all again.

Ref Watch:

Paul Durkin is doing a pretty good job in the middle but the lineman on the near side needs instruction about players not being offside from a backpass. At least Durkin over ruled him and hopefully gave him a good talking to at half time. He also did a pretty good job late in the game, especially when the tackles were flying in at the second half.
