To Newcastle United,

Freddie Fletcher has confirmed that Newcastle United have bought Kieron Dyer. He also announced that Kieron Dyers agent has agreed terms for him to sign a five year contract to join Newcastle United. He will arrive on the night of 14th July for a medical, then will sign up before jetting off to Holland to join up with the rest of the squad. This is the signing that the fans of Newcastle United wanted most (as seen on riks most wanted list) as well as Ruud Gullit who has been a long term admirer of Dyer. Mr Fletcher who was today made new chairman of the club, also attacked players "who messed the club around" saying "we don't want uncommitted players here, we would all like some more BRITISH players".

Could that mean that Dyer is not the last BRITISH player to join the club in the close season? As for Hamoan, Mr Fletcher confirmed that Liverpool have made a bid and that other clubs were interested. But with Dyer signing discussions over Hamoans future had been put on the backburner. Liverpool will be wanting a quick answer from Newcastle and I believe that as soon as the medical results are known and Dyer puts pen to paper then Hamoan will be granted permission to talk to Liverpool. When quizzed about fees for either Dyer or Hamman Mr Fletcher would not give anything away, although sources in the chip shop believe Dyer will cost £6 million and Hamoan will fetch £7.5 million

Born in Ipswich, Dyer came up through the ranks to win a first team place. Quick, skillful midfielder who recently signed a new contract at Town. During the summer of 1997 Kieron represented England in the Youth World Cup and has gone on to win Under-21 and B Honours. He is now seen as one of the hottest young properties in the game. Kieron played in the England under 21 game against Sweden and set up one of the three goals. Kieron ,was called up to the full England squad for the match with Bulgaria which finished 1-1 with Shearer scoring for England and Bulgaria equalising 3 min later. Dyer Started on the bench and that is where he finished the game.

From An Ipswich Town Web site site

Newcastle are apparently offering £7M for Dyer and if that is the case I can't see him staying despite signing a new contract not so long ago.In a recent survey on an Ipswich Web site nearly half expected Dyer to leave.

Most likely to leave this summer?

 49% Kieron Dyer

  7% Richard Wright

From RIK

If there are no problems with the medical then Dyer will be in a Black and white shirt tomorrow. The Fans are ecstatic about such a quality signing and he's BRITISH. Surely the next star of the England team will be at the heart of the Newcastle team hopefully for many years to come. For the first time ever I will be tempted to get a name on the back of my nice new shiny toon top. For sure the purchase of Dyer will lift all the fans. We were getting a bit fed up of the influx of so many foreign players into the league and our team. It's not that we don't want top class foreign players, the likes of the defensive trio that Ruud has just bought are brilliant defenders, indeed better than most BRITISH defenders, Rio Ferdinand and Sol Campbell being the possible exceptions. However when there ARE quality BRITISH players available then WE SHOULD GO FOR THEM. There is more to it than playing well. Words such as loyalty, commitment and team spirit spring to mind. They surely are worth spending the extra money on. All we need now is for the likes of Robbie Keane or Michael Bridges to come to the toon and we will once again have a squad capable of winning the league.

Interestingly, Ipswich also bought a goal keeper from Charlton Athletic today (14/07/99) Their current Goalkeeper Richard Wright has also been linked with a move to Newcastle.

Liverpool have wads of cash and have also expressed an interest in Shay Given. Although they have just signed a top Goalkeeper, it is common knowledge that they are after another top keeper. Could it be that the next move in the transfer merry go round is a joint bid by Liverpool for both Given and Hamoan followed by Newcastle signing Wright? As they say watch this space.
