The 1st ChessMaster British Blitz Chess Championships

The 1st ChessMaster British Blitz Chess Championships were held at Imperial College (London) on 6 & 7 November.

Cash prizes were very generously sponsored by Mindscape, creators of Chessmaster software, who over the weekend gave away 100 copies of their latest product "ChessMaster 7000".

Junior prizes of the easy-to-learn game "Boku" were donated by the London Game Company.

The team tournament on Saturday 6th was dominated by Hackney Chess Club, which fielded two very strong teams. Richmond Juniors Chess Club sent three teams. Altogether, 16 teams competed.

130 players attended the Individual Tournament on Sunday 7th. The following titles were awarded for 1999:

British Blitz Champion GRANDMASTER MICHAEL ADAMS British Blitz Ladies' Champion INTERNATIONAL MASTER HARRIET HUNT (Oxford, on tie-break from Jovanka Houska, both having 10.5 points)

British Blitz Junior Champion NICHOLAS FROST (Tiverton, Devon - on tie- break from Oliver Cooley, Thomas Rendle, Koichi Nicholas and Ezra Lutton, all on 8.5 points)

British Blitz Amateur Champion DAVID M EDWARDS (Richmond Juniors)
