Harry: Leah Jones

Harry was first seen around episode 6/7 of the 1996 series of Byker Grove. She came to stay in Lou Gallaagher's foster home and we learned vaguely that she had something of a tragic background. Her best friend Cher came to visit her and they were both taken to the Grove by Frew.

Cher and Harry's friendship was destroyed after Cher at the last moment decided not to enter the "Stars in Your Eyes" competition night at the Grove as ABBA with Harry, but decided to perform solo as Madonna. However, her act was ruined when Harry proved to everyone that Cher was miming.

Cher started to follow Harry around after she learned that Harry had "new friends". Cher knew that Harry's new friends were fictious, so she relished her position when she became the Synchronised Swimming Coach for the other girls at the Grove and excluded Harry from the activity.

However, Cher allowed Harry a place on the team after Karen pulled out. Cher soon needed Harry's help after she stole £90 from the Cash Box at the Grove to pay for the coach; Cher had eventually been given the money off her mother and needed Harry to replace the money back. Harry still hadn't forgiven her and deliberately took as long as possible to return the money so that Cher was taken home by Sian and the police.

After that day a terror campaign started against her, but Cher didn't know it was Harry who was behind it all until they eventually came face-to-face in the pool. The pair started to fight and Cher found herself held head-down in the water by a furious Harry.

Cher escaped, promptly called the police and had Harry arrested for attempted murder, but later dropped the charge after she realised that she was largely to blame because of the way she'd treated Harry so badly. The pair decided to keep away from each other in future.

Harry's father also made a surprising and brief visit back into her life and he gave her £10,000 that he'd won through betting on the horses. Harry soon found out that she was Miss Popularity at the Grove and made friends with Nat, whose original motives for becoming Harry's friend was questionable.

Harry's father's girlfriend, Jill showed up; she was looking for Harry's father as she was in some sort of trouble. After she learned about Harry's money she tried to get it off her on the pretense she needed it for her unborn child who would've been Harry's half-brother/sister. However, Nat saw through Jill's act and discreetly gave her false information that she hoped would teach her a lesson but actually resulted in Harry getting kidnapped and locked in a cupboard.

Nat tried to rescue Harry later, but Harry was perfectly safe as Jill had released her and explained that there was no baby but she really needed the money because Harry's dad had borrowed money off a rather sinister loan shark and they were demanding money that Jill didn't have on threats of violence they intended carrying out. Harry agreed to give Jill the money she needed and promised her she'd come and visit her at her new home.

Harry and Nat later lead the Grove gilrs against Ollie's Network O and supported Terraise (Tyneside Tina) against Karen, Sita and Cher.

Harry was unduly concerned when Flora had cancer until Flora eased her worries and explained some of the basic facts about cancer to her.

Leah Jones will be returning in Series 10 of Byker Grove.
