The big round hole is the exhaust for the engines, which would be in the same room. The observation / escape hatch steps are where the picture was taken from. There is a centre annexe, where the main entrance led down from the RHS. The loop-hole (unseen in the pic) is in the LH wall of the room where the photograph was taken.
