THE (NORTH) SEA-WALL

Along the (north) sea-wall showing where the north searchlight was located.

The concrete terracing, which once held back a much steeper embankment than the one shown in this picture (the top of which was level with the cliffs where the guns stood). The north searchlight emplacement was located approximately beneath the red arrow. It is believed that the north searchlight was automatically controlled from the Battery Observation post, about twenty yards to the right of where this picture was taken from. This assumption is made because the gunners to whom I have spoken can barely remember the north searchlight, having had little - if anything - to do with it.

Note the difference in grass colour near where the arrow points. It is feasible that this is due to the different ground make-up beneath, in turn due to the huge bulk of the concrete emplacement being dug out or smashed up and buried.
