education values

veryard projects > education > values
concerns principles goals links
We have concerns about the school value system.
  • the earlier the better
  • the faster the better
  • the more the merrier

We have concerns about the effects of these values.
  • neglect of broader and balanced education
  • gross inefficiency - lots of busy-work with little educational benefit
  • unhealthy levels of anxiety and stress
  • counterproductive attempts to deal with flaws in the system
We believe that education should be
  • efficient and effective
  • balanced and integrated
  • challenging and fun.
more

Education systems should be designed for success, not failure.

education principles

veryard projects > education > values > principles

"Inefficient" education results from inappropriate pacing, timing and methods. "Efficient" means learning without tears - getting the greatest educational benefit without wasted effort.
No artificial separation between "subjects".  No artificial separation between "educational" and other activities.
An effective education develops and enhances the ability and desire to learn.
Topics chosen by the pupil will be learned more effectively than topics chosen by the parent or teacher. However, the parent or teacher generally has an obligation to introduce new topics and ideas, and to encourage continued effort and attention.
