SOA Insurance
Insurance is an intangible information-intensive service, and this presents particular opportunities for applying SOA concepts at both technology level and at business level. Following our initial survey of the Service-Based Business in Insurance (October 2003), we return to this sector to explore some specific opportunities. We use insurance examples to illustrate general SOA opportunities. Both IBM and Microsoft see the financial industry as a key sector for SOA, and both have a number of ongoing SOA-related initiatives aimed at insurance companies. The SOA-driven logic of these initiatives is now becoming clearer, and we can see growing support for the service-based insurance business.
