Structural Surveys

We undertake structural surveys for domestic and commercial properties with particular emphasis on major structural faults. We comment upon the overall stability of structures, particularly if alterations have been undertaken in the past.

Before purchasing any property or structure it is extremely important to have a survey undertaken by an expert. There are many defects which may not be apparent to a lay person, but which a structural engineer's trained eye will observe. Purchasing a property is, for many people, the biggest investment they will ever make and the cost of a survey is money well spent in proportion to the purchase price. Many surveys are undertaken following possible structural problems highlighted by a building society survey but we do carry out full structural surveys ourselves.

We initially undertake a visual inspection of the superstructure, including a detailed inspection of all accessible loft areas which can often give an insight into the standard of construction of a building. It is surprising how many defects are encountered within roof spaces. Following the initial survey, this is often extended to opening up parts of a structure, sub-floors, cavities etc., and together with a trial hole or borehole investigation we obtain more in-depth knowledge of the condition and form of foundation construction.
