Dactylorhiza fuchsii
Common Spotted OrchidA native, perennial orchid of neutral to chalky soils, found in deciduous woodland, damp meadows, roadside verges, marshes and fens. A widespread species often found in damp woodland glades on the boulder clay and in the Sandlings. Although shade tolerant, it is not really a woodland species; its frequency in woods is because they have retained some damp grassland in the rides while it has been lost from the rest of the countryside. However, It is capable of colonising relatively new grasslands on roadside verges and in old quarries.
