Deciduous woods are not as easy to distinguish from space as conifers (see
Red Squirrel map) as they are much more varied in colour. It is also hard to distinguish mixed woods from those which are purely deciduous. For this reason it appears that there is much more deciduous woodland in the Breck than is actually the case. Many of the forestry plantations in this area have broadleaf margins and this is shown by the satellite picture.
