Although a specimen of ant-lion was taken at Gorleston in 1931 and further adults were seen in 1994, it was not until 1996 that the discovery of larval pits in several sites in the Suffolk Sandlings confirmed this as a resident breeding species in this country. This is the extreme north-west limit of its distribution in the Western Palaearctic region.
