How much does Broadband Cost ?
The discussion here is about ADSL because that is the form of broadband most likely to become available in Staplehurst. ADSL can be provided by many Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Different ISPs can provide different services and the cost varies from ISP to ISP. A useful list or ISPs can be found on the www.ADSLguide.org web site. The ISPs provide the actual link to the rest of the internet and contract BT wholesale to transport the data (web pages, files etc) from them to you PC. It is important to realise that you have a choice in which ISP to use and not to think that only BTs own ISP (BT Openworld) can provide you with ADSL.

The listing of prices for any particular ISP here is not a recommendation or endorsement of that ISP, it is just I was able to find their prices quickly online to include here. The prices may (probably will) be out of date or even wrong, so do check before you place an order. Check the terms and conditions, particularly the installation fee, contract period and cancellation details. With the newer 'wires only' ADSL services it is much easier to swap ISP if you are unhappy. Some of the lower cost ISPs may not give good support if you have problems. A good tip here is to find their support phone number and try ringing it to see how long it takes to answer before placing your order.

A good place to find out about the positive and negative points of a particular ISP is the forums on www.adslguide.org, although you are more likely to complaints because people don't normally shout so much when they are happy :-)

Before ordering ADSL it is important to understand the difference between engineer assisted and self-install (wires only) ADSL. The different speeds that ADSL can be provided at and the difference between an ADSL modem and an ADSL router. Several good places to learn are listed on the links page.
