BROADBAND AS SEEN ON TV

I’m sure most of you by now have seen the new BT advert on TV offering their new high speed internet service ‘Broadband an `always on` internet connection and up to between ten to forty times faster than dial up 56k modems.

This technology also lets you use your phone at the same time so there is no need for two phone lines and no more missed calls. All this down your normal BT phone line for less than £30 per month and cheaper still if you shop around different ISPs (Internet Service Providers). Unfortunately your local BT Telephone Exchange has to be Enabled for any of these ISPs, including BT, to offer ADSL Broadband Internet to any house or business in Marden. So use your vote of interest to ensure Marden has a large demand so that BT has to take our village seriously and bring us into the 21st Century like the rest of the South East of England.

Marden no trigger level set

Marden already has a interest in ADSL Broadband - 112 people have registered their interest already. Therefore, we have a much higher level of interest than most places nationwide, which have already had their trigger level set. Marden also has a larger population and, therefore, more potential Broadband customers. So why is Marden being forgotten?
Only BT know the answer to this and they are refusing to share it with the general public. Maybe the truth could be rather embarrassing for them? Some might speculate that our current problems are the result of years of under-funding and a cowboy approach to dealing with Marden`s ever-growing population (See DACs Section below), and lack of any competition in Marden from other telephone companies like Telewest and NTL.

All we can do now is get as much local support as we can for this campaign, by you signing up your interest through this site or through your own ISP, i.e. Freeserve, AOL, Demon, etc, where every vote gets added to the BT ADSL demand tracker. It will also help if you make an official complaint to OFTEL, the telecom`s governing body on tel. 0845 714 5000. Report the fact that you would like ADSL Broadband, but that it is not available in Marden. I know this is a valid complaint as I have done so already. OFTEL do take your complaints seriously. If we do not act now we will never get this digital technology and our schools and businesses will seriously suffer due to this. MAKE SURE YOU VOTE TODAY!

FACTS - DID YOU KNOW…?

66% of the UK can get ADSL Broadband now.75% of the South East of England can get ADSL Broadband now and will pass the 80% mark once more exchanges reach their trigger levels.
BT is very proud of these facts, but they don`t help Marden one bit.

PS2 AND X BOX FANS

To all you gamers out there, you will only be able to play games over the Internet on these consoles if you have a Broadband Internet connection. So it looks like we`re going to miss out on all the fun then!

DACs

This is a device BT use to share one telephone line between two houses, which is fine for telephone calls, but has a serious problem when data is passed through it, halving the speed of your internet connection. For over a year I had an abnormally slow Internet connection, so kept contacting BT to check for a fault on my line, and every time was told that my line was fine and that it must be my ISP or modem. Trying different ISPs and modems made no difference, and this is when I found out I had a DAC fitted to my line. At this point I asked BT to remove it and they refused point blank, so I contacted OFTEL and they managed to get it removed for me. Now my 56k modem is working at the speeds it should. This makes me wonder how many other people in Marden also have a DAC fitted to their phone line.

Don’t delay. Check that your phone line does not have a DAC fitted to it. Why should you pay full price for line rental when you’re only getting half a line?
