Snow Crash
This book is simply excellent, breathing new life into a genre which was beginning to look a little tired. The books expertly mixes suspense and excitment with just enough humour to keep the book fairly light hearted. The ideas contained within this book are wonderfully inventive, yet still retain that essential degree of plausability. Overall I thought this was a wonderful book, and well worth anyones money.
Rating: 10/10.
An excellent book that everyone should read.
The Diamond Age
Following Snow Crash was always going to be a difficult task, but Neal Stephenson almost succeeds with this novel.. Set further into the future than Snow Crash it follows the life of a young girl in a world where nano-machines have become the dominant technology. The books starts excellently, but tails of slightly towards the end. This is a shame because the world he has created in this book is fascinating and well thought out - it's just a shame the story doesn't quite match up to it. This was so nearly an excellent book, but it is still a very good book, and well worth reading.
Rating: 8/10.
Excellent ideas and a well thought out world make up for a slightly under-acheiving story.
