The Figure-of-Eight.

A terminal knot normally used to prevent a free rope end from slipping through another knot.

Stage 1. Form a simple loop.

Stage 2. Wrap once more to form a twist.

Stage 3. Pass the free end through the back of the first loop.

Stage 4. And tighten.
