This guide was produced as a collaborative effort between the Arboricultural
Association (AA) and the Forestry & Arboriculture Safety & Training
Council (FASTCo). It offers advice on the latest climbing techniques and equipment.
The booklet is divided into the following sections.

    arrest equipment.
 
  - Climbing Equipment. Regulations, ropes, karabiners, inspection.

  - Methods of Access. Ladders, body thrust, climbing technique,
    throw-bags, foot locking, climbing irons, mechanical adjusters.
 
  - Anchor Points. Friction savers.
 
  - Working in the Crown. Techniques, risk reduction, supplementary
    anchor points, climbing irons.
 
  - Descent.
 
  - Appendices. Glossary, Legislation, Contacts. Appendix 4 includes
    copies of  FASTCo safety guides 401 (Tree Climbing Operations) and 402 (Aerial Tree
    Rescue).
