Music
My classical musical interests started when I discovered a handful of records that my Dad had. These were Tchaikovsky's 1st piano concerto, Beethoven's 6th symphony, Mozart's last piano concerto (No. 27) and the Brahms violin concerto. A sumptuous collection, especially for a novice. Also I had always been intrigued by watching my uncle Rodney play "Smoky Joe's" style stride piano and I used to make a racket on his piano whenever we visited. One day my parents bought a piano - something I thought we would never have (an insane luxury, I thought) and I was hooked. I obtained a listening repertoire by listening to about 3/4ths of an hour's music with the score everyday before school. I also joined a range of choirs, large and chamber choirs locally, at school, at university and of course when I eventually moved up to the North East of England.
