SWAT Locks Family 2007 Christmas newsletter

A missed £250 Opportunity
Students of last year's newsletter would have noticed that amongst Amy's xmas wish list was a chocolate fountain.

"No way Amy are we getting a chocolate fountain" we ruled firmly.
Then some friends bought one for us as a Christmas present. "RESULT!" exclaimed Miss Locks

So there we were making the usual chocolaty mess...

I snapped that photo and had just put away the video camera when Amy pushed the stick right into the rotating mechanism of the Fondue and the whole of the top span round very fast splattering Amy, her cousin, the fish tank, the hamster cage, the hamster and the rest of the room in chocolate. If only we had left the video rolling!

We had much chocolate fountain in 2007 and had to do lots of exercise to make up for it.

Squeak and Honk
Amy started learning the Northumbrian pipes.

Doesn't Wendy look dynamic in that photo? Do not be fooled - you should hear the abysmal sound the pipes make when Wendy or Steve have a go!

Nerds

Tom and Steve like nothing better than to spend all day on the computer.

Whilst Tom puts his skills to good use getting Power Rangers through obstacles, Steve has been producing another website. This is the unlikely sounding: Special Services Squadron World Cruise 1923-1924
The reason for putting this together is that my Mum's side of the family own a copy of the official photo album from the British Special Services Squadron World Cruise 1923-1924. The album belonged to my Grandfather, Albert Edward Scott, who sailed as part of the Special Services Squadron on HMS Repulse. This was a goodwill tour of the Royal Navy's special service squadron around the then British Empire. I felt this should be available on the Internet as a fascinating historical document of the times. So follow the link above to see what I have done with it.

Geeks

Steve also likes nothing better than to sit outside with a balaclava helmet on staring into space with his telescope. Here's a shot I took this year of a lunar eclipse with the nice red moon caused by the ring of sunsets and sunrises round the world illuminating the moon as it passes behind the Earth. I just held my camera over the eyepiece and took a photo on macro setting - nothing fancy and a little camera shake...

Softies

Steve also took some nice photos of some cygnets that hatched in Morpeth via the same telescope technique. Details on the blog!

Holidays

York in the Spring again. We did many tourist bus rides and came away with a well ingrained history lesson of the grizzly ways people have dispatched each other through the ages. Then we were off to Center Parcs again but this time completing our tour of the Center Parcs by going to the last one on in the UK at Longleat. Mostly we threw ourselves off high things.

Amy and Steve also went horse riding. We discovered when we got to the waiting point that we had to wear long trousers. So I phoned back to Wendy who was waiting out the rain with Tom at the villa. Wendy cycled down with Tom who had the most enormous fandango about going out in the rain! We and all the people at the waiting area could hear him coming for about 2 minutes!

But it was worth it (or not worth it if you ask Tom!)

We also had a very jolly holiday in Aldeburgh with an infinity of relatives. Photos here!

Incorrect headgear

Tom started school and if you want to see his photo journal of day 1 at school then click here.

This is the only year that he and Amy will be at the same school. Whenever they bump into each other they always give each other high fives. Tom was so excited to be sitting next to Amy at lunch one day that he tried to amuse her by putting spaghetti on the head of the boy next to him (come on, you've all done it...)

But, but... that's impossible - surely!

The following magic trick was repeated in various guises all year. Apply to the webmaster for more videos if you can bare it!

Flight simulator
We did something we had always wanted to do and spent wads of dosh on a digital piano with more buttons than is quite seemly. We got one of these and have spent a long time experimenting with it (which may be why we haven't got so much to say this year!)

Seasonal visitor
with a furry coat pops down the chimney
At this time of year there is meant to be a welcome visitor popping down our chimneys. Guess who we found at the bottom of our chimney...

Bye!

Love from, Steve and Amy ...

Wendy...

and Tom!
