Can't Buy Me Love
As reviewed by Miguel Can'tbuymemoneytitface Kesey
I watched this film late one night because I thought I saw Don Calfa of "The Return Of The Living Dead" fame in it. Although, it turned out not to be him. But anyway, I quite enjoyed it when it was on.
It stars Patrick Dempsey, who I'm pretty sure played David's big/little brother in "Flight Of The Navigator", but I'm not certain. Anyway, he's one of the school geeks who longs to be popular...blah, blah...typical lame 80s "hey, let's be popular" flick. He's been saving up all his money to buy a big telescope (because, everyone who isn't popular, as we all know, is into astronomy and likes Star Trek), however, just as he's about to purchase it, he spots the "most popular girl in school" sobbing because she's spilled something on her mother's dress, and to fix it, she'd have to buy a new one. So, big Patrick offers to buy a new one if she'll be his girlfriend for a month to make him popular.
And what do you know? American popular teenagers are so naive and pathetic they fall for it. Suddenly, everyone wants some Patrick Dempsey ass...
However, the most popular girl in school begins to like Patrick...now how unpredictable was that?! And she goes mad when they "break up", since she really does want his hot sci-fi bod. Ho...so, the fun begins.
Quite a cool film...it's entertaining 80s shite basically...in the same vein as "Dance Til Dawn" and err.. "Dance Til Night"... plus, even the early 90s smash-hit (poll winner's party) "California Man".
