A Christmas Story
As reviewed by Miguel Compassonthestock Kesey
Yes, we all know about Christmas films. They're feelgood family nonsense. Apart from this little blighter. I don't know if this is a TV movie or what, but it's better than a lot of big budget films I've seen. But, EVERYTHING was better than "Eraser".
So, it's about this little boy, Ralph, played by an unknown never-to-be-seen-again (at least not by me) actor who wants a BB gun for Christmas. However, his mother says he'll shoot his eye out, along with his teacher and his last hope, the Santa at the mall. It's all about the run up to Christmas, and Ralph's battles to try and persuade his parents to get him a BB gun.
This film would probably be dire and disturbing if it wasn't for the frighteningly realistic and amazing acting. It's a comedy, but goddamn, never have child actors screamed so loudly, or shown true emotion. The excitement on their faces as Christmas approaches... I nearly peed my pants.
Other moral tales include : Disappointment at commercialism, eating soap for swearing, beating up some bastard for throwing snowballs, and shooting your eye out with a BB gun. Fantastic.
