Ed Wood

As reviewed by Miguel Clobbered Kesey

Ho! This film was recommended to me and I rushed out to buy it after hearing Bill Murray was in it playing a pre-op transexual...and whaddaya know, Alice? It was really good.

It's the true story of the world's worst director, Edward D. Wood Jnr. and his plans to make it big, like his hero, Orson Welles. Unfortunately, not only due to crap financing, his films are torn pieces of linoleum covered in shit. Ie. Not very good.

His productions are less than topical for the time. He is the writer and director of "Glen Or Glenda", a film about transvestitism. Another is the infamous "Plan 9 From Outer Space", starring Vampira, and Tor Johnson...a horror film that only me, Juan, Fitzy, Fletch and Mon would like. That Ed, I tell you, not appreciated in his own time.

The movie stars Johnny Depp (of "Edward Scissorhands", and being a friend of Noel Gallagher (ooh, unwise, Johnny, unwise) fame) as Ed, Sarah Jessica Parker of "Unattractive little bitch sex in the city" and "L.A. Story" fame as his wife; plus lots of other people...oh yeah, that dude from "Space 1999", Martin Landau or however you spell his name...he plays Bela Lugosi (who, according to Bauhaus, is dead).

The film follows a few years in Ed's career in a lovely tongue-in-cheek, yet respectful fashion. If this film doesn't make you want to pay £10.99 for Ed's "Orgy Of The Dead" from Virgin Megaslut, nothing will.
