These portfolios contain all the materials you need to teach synthetic phonics at home or school. In 1998, Joyce Watson and Rhona Johnston published a study in which new school entrants in Clackmannanshire carried out a 16 week programme for teaching synthetic phonics. On completion of the programme, these children were reading and spelling phonics 7 months ahead of chronological age and there were fewer underachieving pupils. (Watson & Johnston, 1998). Long term follow-ups show that the children have maintained and increased these gains.

The materials used in the study are now for sale and they include all the further activities advocated in Progression in Phonics.
