Bollington United Match Reports

11/4/01 Bramhall North 1 Bollington United 9

The only game for all Bolly clubs this Easter week was the Under 12's, who played last Tuesday away at Bramhall, with no Under 11's in this time just a bare squad of 11 players. In goal was stand-in keeper Tom Bamford, who is normally our midfield ball winner, however, Tom was happy to don the gloves for a second successive match. As it turned out the gloves provided a useful source of warmth as Tom had very little to do during this match. Bolly started like a train, with two thunderous strikes from skipper Chris Simons after 5 minutes, which effectively killed the game. Further goals from Nick Mottershead and Jordan Swindells put Bolly 4-0 up, Bramhall did eventually score, however, it required two home players burying our smallest Chris Murphy 3 feet in to the turf before going one-on-one with the keeper and scoring at the second attempt. Half-time the score was 4-1 to the Bolly, the second period was more of the same, Bramhall tried to shake the visitors with a more physical game, however Bolly would have none of it and competed in every department. Nick Mottershead completed his hat trick, Jordan added another to his seasons tally and the midfield general Andy Laing rounded of yet another superb display with a goal. All 11 were outstanding, Tom who has now played 180 mins. in goal, let in just 2 and saved a penalty last week deserves a mention as does Jonny Saatchi, who brilliantly marshalled a back 3. However, the MOTM for a superb hat trick and some of the finest link up play setting up at least 4 of the other goals, was given to skipper Chris Simons.

8/4/01 Bollington United 3 Bramhall North 1

This home fixture left us with 4 players unavailable, including the goalkeeper, therefore, we seconded 3 players from the Under 11's and what stars they were. John Hollin proved he could handle the step up in age by coolly notching Bolly's equaliser after 15 minutes. Chris Simons added a second before half time to take the home side in to the break 2-1 up. The second half saw a catalogue of missed chances by Bolly, until 2 mins. from full time when the second of our U11's trio John Webb tricked his way down the left wing and slotted home from a near impossible angle. The 3rd U11 draft, Sam Bernard was outstanding in the midfield with his tackling and general ball distribution. A deserved victory for Bolly, with considerable help from the younger boys. However, lets not forget two unsung 12 year old hero's Jonny Saatchi commanding the centre of defence and (Mr Utility) Tom Bamford who has played in most outfield positions for Bolly this year, found himself in goal and was a revelation and worthy winner of the MOTM award.

3/4/01 Apollo Juniors 2 Bollington United 6

Apollo currently promotion candidates, came up against a Bolly side with something to prove, having been soundly thrashed (5-1) in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. This time with a full strength squad we soon put the home side to task with goals from Chris Simons and 2 from Andy Laing, the home side rallied before half-time to make the score 3-1 to Bolly. In the second period Apollo bombarded Bolly with the long ball tactic, which failed to trouble a solid back four. In attack Bolly played some of the best passing football seen at this level, culminating in further goals from Jordan Swindells 2 and Nick Mottershead. The home side managed a second but only as a conciliation, all the players were outstanding, however, two in particular, deserve a special mention Andy Laing and captain Alex Jackson who constantly ripped the home side apart with their devastating running from midfield, both jointly were awarded MOTM.

25/3/01 Bollington United 4 Mountfield Rovers 5

11/3/01 County Juniors 4 Bollington United 1

4/3/01 Mountfield Rovers 3 Bollington United 8

Using technology to its utmost, eventually Bollington under 12's got a game in, as both managers inspected their pitches at 10.30, a swift mobile conversation ensued and the match was switched to an away fixture at Mountfield. On probably the smallest pitch in the division Bollington struggled to cope with the conditions and the overwhelming size of the oposition and within 10 minutes were 3-0 down. The first goal was extremely well taken. The next two came straight out of Billy Smarts Circus: a defensive clearance that rebounded off the on-coming striker and a looping ball that bounced over the Bolly keeper (who was blameless on both counts) made the 3-0 scoreline. What resulted in the next 60 minutes made John Aldridge's achievement two weeks ago seem insignificant. Driven on by Tom Bamford and Andy Laing in midfield, the visitors started to rise to the challenge and both Tom and Andy notched before half time to make the score 3-2 to Mountfield.

The second period was effectively a 6-0 battering by Bolly with goals coming from Nick Mottershead, Jordan Swindells and with goal machine/man-of-the-match Chris Simons bagging 4, the visitors ran out comfortable winners 8-3. Mentions to Andy, Tom, Rick, Tom Morris and John Spinks who were magnificent throughout. The next game is away to County Juniors.

4/2/01 Bollington United 2 Stockport Juniour Blues 6

This Sunday saw the Bolly Under 12's take on division 1 runaway leaders Stockport Junior Blues, at home in atrocious conditions. Despite more than a division and three-quarters between the sides, the first half belonged to the home team and but for a touch of luck and the thickness of a crossbar (which is now bent thanks to Andy Laing's bullet drive), Bolly could have been 2 or 3 goals ahead. The actual score was 1-1 with Junior Blues striking against the run of play after 10 mins, the home onslaught was finally rewarded, following a mazey dribble and powerful 18 yard left foot shot from Tom Morris to equalise.

The second period started much the same with Bolly having the better of the early exchanges. However, luck wasn't to favour the home side, a quick break by Junior Blues on the left culminating in a shot heading for the bottom right corner, was somehow miraculously saved by John Spinks only to rebound off the post into the path of the on coming forward, who tapped it home. This took the stuffing out of the home side and the visitors eventually ran out winners 6-2 with a late strike from Nick Mottershead following good work by Luke Murray as a worthy late consolation. Bolly had 11 heroes on Sunday, and for most of the first half it was 10, following a bad injury to striker Chris Simons and no substitutes available. Chris bravely came out for the second half despite not being 100%. All the boys were outstanding, however I must mention Tom Bamford and Rick Shuttleworth at the heart of the defence and Captain Alex Jackson who will mix it with the biggest and the best and 'man-of-the-match' Andy Laing for an all round brilliant performance at the centre of midfield.

28/1/01 Lostock Rangers 2 Bollington United 15

This week the under 12's travelled to Lostock FC in Poynton, it was actually our home fixture, but due to the recent fixture pile-up, we had to play away or share our pitch with the under 13's .This didn't deter the Bolly boys who eventually got started after falling behind to a well-deserved goal by the home side after 10 minutes. A great run down the left by Tom Bamford a sweet cross and a deadly finish by Chris Simons. This started the rout: Goals by Nick Mottershead (2), Alex Jackson, Chris Simons got his second and Tom Bamford finished it off with a scorcher to make the halftime score 6-1 to Bolly.

The second half was equally one sided as Bolly scored a further 9 goals: Chris Simons and Nick Mott getting their hat tricks quickly followed by a Luke Murray's second-half treble , Alex Jackson, Craig Templeton, Andy Laing and an unfortunate own goal, completed the misery for Lostock. However, they continued to show spirit and managed a late conciliation goal making the final score Bolly 15 Lostock 2. Man-of-the-match was Jonny Saatchi for a commanding performance at the centre of defence

17/1/2001 Bollington United 1 Spurley Hey 5

On a Frosty pitch after waiting two hours Bolly played the league Spurley Hey. Spurley scored first but Bolly stuck to their tasks and after a scramble in the Spurley box Andy fired home hitting a Spurley player on the line before going in. Despite the efforts of Spinksy in goal Spurley scored just before half-time.

It was all Spurley in the second half. Spurley scored and Bolly decided to gamble on attacking and Spurley capatalized scoring 2 on the break. Men of the match were Alex and Andy.

10/1/2001 Priory County 8 Bollington United 3

Starting with 10 players including Under 10's David Murphy and a Luke (from All Hallows) on his debut Bolly took on the side top of the top league. Bollington had strikers Chris, Nick and Jordan out so it was a predictable scoreline. But Bolly scored first! Craig slotting home from a one on one. 5 Priory goals followed before half-time when Dom Lennard showed up.

Luke scored on his debut, Priory scored again before Andy scored a great goal after a tremendous run. Priory slotted home to make the final score 8-3. Andy received man of the match.

9/12/2001 Bollingon United 18 Norbury Athletic 1

Bollington smashed thrd division side Norbury in an easy match. 6 goals from Chris, 4 for Nick, 3 for Alex and Jordan. 1 for Bamby and 1 for Craig. Spinksy didn't touch the ball with his hands. Martin gave the away team a penalty to make the away teams trip worthwhile and the Norbury player slotted it home. Tom Morris received man of the match.

2/12/00 (cup) Bollington United 8 Poynton 1

It's been 5 weeks since the Bolly U12's last played a game, this week we entertained highflying Poynton from the division below. Bollington started as though it was a cup final not a first round fixture, with goals f rom Chris Simons (2) & Alex Jackson putting the home side 3 up inside the first 10 minutes. Further goals from Jordon Swindells (2) & Andrew Laing gave a halftime score line of 6-0 to Bolly. The second period was always going to be less attractive given the halftime score and the constant rolling on and off of substitutes, further goals from Nick Mottershead and a fine header from Jonny Saatchi completed the rout. Poynton never gave up and scored a late consolation goal, making the final score Bolly 8 Poynton 1. The Poynton manager was very gracious in defeat, complimenting the style and tactical awareness shown by all the boys from Bolly.

Special mentions for John Spinks in goal, the defence as a whole (Tom B, Tom M, Richard, Jonny and Chris) and new boys Luke and Andrew who ably assisted Alex, Jordon, Craig when required. Chris Simons was named man-of-the-match for his wonderful 1st goal and his all round tireless contribution.

15/10/2000 Bollington United 3 Appollo Juniors 5

8/10/2000 Lostock Rangers 1 Bollington United 11

This Saturday the Under 12's were away to local rivals Lostock Rangers of Poynton, in a game in which both teams needed points and it proved within the first 2 minutes that Bollington were the hungrier. Our first corner taken by Craig Templeton was delivered deep to the far post and in from the back steamed Rick Shuttleworth to power in a header and Bollington's opener. The Bollington onslaught continued with goals from Nick Mottershead, Chris Simons and Tom Bamford to make the halftime score 4-0 to the visitors. Changes were made in the second period but the Bollington rampage continued with two further goals from Chris Simons to complete his hat trick, Jordon Swindells managed to notch a quick second half hat trick. The captain Alex Jackson would not be out done grabbing a couple which included the goal of the game a peach of a near post header created by a mazy run and cross, from new boy Andrew Laing. The 'men-of-the-match' were the back four of Tom Bamford, Rick Shuttleworth, Jonny Saatchi and Chris Murphy with Murph just nicking it, as the outstanding player of the day.

Final score Lostock Rangers 1 - Bollington United 11

1/10/2000 Bollington United 2 Spurley Hey 4

24/9/00 Bollington United 2 Signol Athletic 6

This Saturday the Under 12's were at home to the much fancied Signol Athletic from Stockport, who in their last league fixture thumped Bramhall North 10-0. In a competitive opening 15 minutes both sides looked capable of scoring, eventually the dead lock was broken when Nick Mottershead pounced on a poor clearance following a Bolly free kick to put the home side one up. Instead of motivating the home side it created the opposite effect and we decide to go to sleep in defence and loose any shape we had in midfield for a period of 10 minutes. Therefore, gifting the visitors three simple goals. A great strike from Jordon Swindells pulled one back for the home side just before half time making the score 3 -2. Unfortunately, the horrendous weather conditions and a lack of confidence in the defence soon put pay to Bollington getting back in to the game as a series of defensive howlers gave the visitors a further 3 goals in the second half. It could have been far worse had not 'man-of-the-match' John Spinks pulled off a host of fine saves. There were other performances worth mentioning; Chris Simons for his tireless running up front, Craig Templeton and Jordon Swindells in midfield and Chris Murphy in defence who at times had 3 players to mark. Signol taught Bolly a lesson on how not to sit back on a lead (Stockport sides compete), on a pleasing note their manager applauded the way we played football with some quality passing and the very good news is that Bambi is back in defence next week. When we take on Spurley Hey away.

10/9/2000 Stockport Dynamo Colts 3 Bolington United 3

Bollington had a tough first league encounter at the start of the season, an away fixture to Stockport Dynamo Colts, who soundly thrashed us 10 goals to 1 in our last fixture of last year. Despite fielding a depleted side missing 3 regulars, including "goal machine" Chris Simons who sustained an injury in a friendly last week, Bollington were outstanding. Going a goal down in the first minute would normally suggest a horror story, but the boys from Bolly are older and far more resilient. An in swinging corner from Tom Bamford confused all in the home defence and when it rebounded off the far post, the quickest to react was Nick Mottershead in his first league game poking home a much deserved equaliser in the 25th minute. The home side regained the lead, however, with a well taken goal and led 2-1 at half time. Bolly kicking up a slight slope in second period were more inclined to create a threat, with the ball holding up for our marauding midfield. Soon "Buzzer" Templeton broke free on the right to lash the ball goal bound, which the unlucky home keeper could only parry into his net. Bolly kept attacking their opponents with every chance and soon enough Craig Templeton broke again on the right and this time the keeper could only watch as the ball sailed in to the roof of the net from 20 yards out. Bolly's attack minded approach eventually resulted in a share of the points as with less than two minutes to go the home side equalised as we failed to pick up runners, following a 5 minute onslaught on the home goal. However, in fairness, a result we would have settled for before the game.

All the boys played well, with special mentions for the 3-man defence of Tom Bamford, Jonny Saatchi and Rick Shuttleworth ably marshalled by John Spinks in goal. The "man-of-the-match" was Craig Templeton who bossed a packed midfield and still managed to score two goals

2/9/2000 Bollington United 5 Ladybridge United 3 (Friendly)

Bollington celebrated a great victory over a newly promoted A League side. Bolly took the lead after around 15 minutes when Jordan Swindells stole onto a through ball to slide the ball passed the goal keeper. Ladybridge equalized soon after but Alex Jackson scored a 20 yard scorcher right on the stroke of Half Time.

In the second half Bolly conceded two goals but fought back. They passed well and were strong on the ball. Chris Simons equalized after a series of saves from the Ladybridge goalkeeper and was injured in the process. Jordan got another before the miracle happened. TOM MORRIS SCORED!!!!!! And a great a goal it was too. Jordan received the "man-of-the-match" award for his strong performance. Well done to the two Under11's who helped us out (John Webb and Sam Bernard). Well done also to the new players Nick Mottershead, Rupert and Luke Murray.
