Tom's Kayaking Expeditions Page!

Welcome to my kayaking expediton page! I have been canoeing for about a year and a half now and I am a 3 star kayaker.

For my Bronze D of E expedition I took part in trip across a strech of the Caledonian Canal in Scotland, from one end of Loch Lochy to the start of Loch Ness. We paddled about 10.5 miles per day and camped at Laggan Lochs. The weather wasn't kind to us and it rained on and off throughout both days. Even with the weather as it was, the scenery was quite spectacular, the highland mountains reached up to the skys on either side of the Lochs and the water seemed to strech on forever in front and behind us. The whole area was quite deserted. We shared the water only with the odd fishing trawler and a group doing their Gold expedition who also came from Nottinghamshire. Even though the route we were following was quite a simple one it seemed very easy to feel lost, out there in the middle of nowhere with only the team to talk to. The relief on the last day when we finaly reached the end after a long strech of canal paddling was something I will never forget. If you've ever visited Fort William in Scotland and seen the magnitude of the scenery up there then this article will probably mean something to you but if you haven't it is a beautiful part of the world and perhaps you'll go there one day.

The Future...

This year I'm planning to take part in an expedition on the River Wye in July and in an expedition to the source of the Thames some time in the early Autumn. I'll be adding reports of both expeditions to the site when I've completed them.
