High quality professional backing tracks......

Available now are backing tracks created to professional quality, using the latest studio technology. All tracks are suitable for vocalists, guitar vocalists, duos and bands.

Each backing track is carefully created using drums, guitars, orchestral strings, brass, woodwind, synthesisers and many other instruments that encompass popular music from the 60's to the present day. We firmly believe in quality over quantity therefore we only produce backing tracks that we believe make the grade. Many of our current clients include BBC Radio, Televised Talent Shows, Dance Studios, Theatre & Drama Companies and Corporate Entertainment Groups. Our library is increasing all the time and we are sure that you will be pleased with your purchase.

Music is available in the following formats:

  • CD   £5.00 per backing track + one payment of £2.50 to cover postage & protective packaging - (this price includes a high quality premium branded Compact Disc).
  • MD £5.00 per backing track + one payment of £2.50 to cover postage & protective packaging - (this price includes a high quality premium branded MiniDisc).
  • MP3  £5.00 per backing track (forwarded via e-mail). Tracks are usually forwarded within 72hrs from receipt of payment.

Each backing track is generally produced in the key of the original artist although we will transpose to any key, at no extra cost. Solo and multiple instrument parts can also be removed by request at no extra cost (suitable for guitar vocalists etc.)

Backing Tracks F.A.Q. (frequently asked questions)....

How do I place my order?

To place an order, please visit our new website at: www.stevestrax.com

Alternatively you can select your required backing tracks from the downloadable catalogue, and complete the order form (on the final page of the catalogue.) Once completed, send the form by post, together with a cheque or postal order for the required amount. If you are unable to download the catalogue or order form, a simple note will suffice - please remember to include payment, your return address, choice of format and required tracks. Alternatively, we now offer online payment facilities via Debit/Credit card and PayPal - via the new website (links at the top pf page).

Can I choose the key of the backing track?

Yes, if you require a key change this can be specified on the order form. If you are not sure of the key you require, but you know that you sing the backing track higher/lower than the original, simply put (+1 ), (+2), (-1), (-2 ) etc. by the side of the track title and we will know to transpose it by the requested amount of keys. There is no charge for key changes requested prior to purchase. Please note: Track key changes are produced professionally, i.e. the track tempo is not affected unlike typical 'karaoke' style key changers.

What if I don't know which key I sing in, or if I am not sure if I would be comfortable singing in the key of the original?

Unless a specific key is requested on the order form, backing tracks are usually supplied in the key of the original, however key changes can be provided upon request.

I would like a particular instrument removed (e.g. lead guitar / piano), is this possible?

Yes, any instrument track can be removed to suit guitar vocalists, or indeed anyone wishing to use their own accompaniment. This service is provided free of charge, and can be requested on the order form. For specific requirements please contact us prior to purchase. We do not currently advocate removal of drum tracks from backing tracks as we do not re-produce drummer click-tracks when drums are removed.

Why are your backing tracks so much clearer than those I have previously purchased?

All our backing tracks are recorded from what is known as a 'first generation' production. This means that all our recordings are made directly from the original equipment to ensure that CD and MD recordings are crystal clear. All our tracks are supplied on high quality branded media.

Are you able to remove vocals from an original CD?

We are unable to remove vocals from an original CD. The reasons for this are as follows:-

In the past, tracks have been produced and sold in the guise of backing tracks using vocal elimination equipment (equipment which attempts to remove sounds that are heard through the direct centre of the speaker range). With most commercial CD tracks, the vocals are rarely centre-panned through the complete song. When any form of vocal elimination equipment is used, the end result is always poor as essential instruments are removed, and unwanted parts of the vocals are retained. Heavy sound compression is also used on original recordings to allow playback via radio stations and on a wide variety of different players. As you get used to what to listen for, you will hear many CDs where the level of the backing track falls when the singer (or backing singers) start singing. This again is not ideal for live vocal applications.

We feel that a singer should be able to concentrate on their own vocals, and not have to compete with unwanted vocals, or missing instrumentation.

One huge difference is that professional backing tracks, as opposed to 'karaoke', or voice eliminated tracks, are produced for their intended purpose, which is to compliment the singer's voice. This is achieved by using a large range of instruments, and subtle chorus instrumentation where appropriate, whilst still retaining space within the music for the audience to appreciate the vocal talents of the performer. Our backing tracks are produced to enhance your voice - not cover it up.

I have purchased backing tracks from elsewhere that fade-out. Why is this?

Professional backing tracks for stage use should not fade-out. The reason for this is that the audience does not have a clear indication of when to applaud. Many companies who claim to 'produce' backing tracks are merely re-sellers of the product, hence the reason why they cannot provide professional endings to the tracks. This is also typical of companies supplying 'karaoke' style tracks in the guise of backing tracks. A quality track takes many many hours to produce, and there should be no reason to accept a fade-out ending.

Should I be using CD or MiniDisc?

The majority of clients initially order backing tracks on CD, and then transfer to Minidisc as this enables you to retain the original CD as a backup copy - this is the preferred method. We do not really advocate the direct use of CD for live performances as these can become subject to track skipping due to constant handling / finger marks on the disc etc.

Can I copy or duplicate the tracks?

All backing tracks supplied by Steve's Trax are subject to legal copyright restrictions and as such a licensing fee has been paid for each supplied track. This ensures that the relevant royalty fees are paid to the original artistes/producers. Restrictions include that recordings purchased from Steve's Trax must not be sold, hired, lent or duplicated without express permission from ourselves. We do however allow the purchaser to make a backup copy or transfer to a preferred medium for their own personal use.

Do you provide lyric sheets?

Lyric sheets for all complete backing tracks are automatically included free of charge.
