When Stan Bowles Signed for QPR in September 1972, some commentators said that it was a high-risk expense at £112,000. How wrong were they, for Bowles was probably the finest player to appear for the club. He was a talent that did not fully blossom untill he was in his mid twenties, by which time he had played for Manchester City, Bury, Crewe and Carlise and had moved on from most clubs in controversial circumstances. As the great Rangers side of the seventies, built around quality players like Parkes, McLintock, Webb, Francis, Thomas, etc. grew, so did the reputation of Stan Bowles, when his ability to improve his game and adapt his genius was a revelation. With flair and ability, it was natural that he would eventually be selected by England, although he was capped only 5 times. At the end of 1979, he moved to Notts Forest where he played for a short spell under CLough, then went on to Orient and ultimatley Brentford where he ended his carrer. Both on and off the field he was a colorful character, to say the least, but he certainly lit up Loftus Road. He Scored 97 goals in 315 games for the Super Hoops
