RANGERS maintained their recent unbeaten record as they were forced to settle for a draw against League leaders, Manchester City. Chris Kiwomya's first half strike was cancelled out by Kevin Horlock's goal on the hour mark which preserves both teams' good runs of late, although R's boss, Gerry Francis, will be disappointed that his side failed to pick up all three points. The home side held the slight advantage in an entertaining opening period and they were the first to apply any pressure on the opposing goal after ten minutes. Jermaine Darlington released midfielder, Paul Murray, and his pinpoint centre found Ian Baraclough, but the wing-back could only direct a weak header goalwards. It was then City's turn to show some adventure, as they missed a sound opportunity to open the scoring after Richard Jobson headed straight at Lee Harper from Mark Kennedy's corner. On 26 minutes, the visitors forced a great save out of Harper following a flick on from Horlcok. Irish international, Kennedy chased the ball, but his low shot was brilliantly turned away by Harper. From there Rangers hit back, with a vicious long range drive from Baraclough sailing over, and Rob Steiner striking tamely at goal having been put through by Kiwomya. With six minutes remaining before half-time, the R's made the critical breakthrough. Baraclough smashed in another one of his long-distance attempts, which was blocked this time by Richard Edghill, but Kiwomya pounced on the ball to slot home past Nicky Weaver. Kiwomya almost added a second in injury-time in the first half when he outstripped Jobson, but his clever chip hit the outside of the post and went wide.
